A free verse poem

Original Photography by DYSPLA

The years fester
collecting darkness
like little objects
flickering behind shadows.
Particles, periodicals
of a recognisable life.
Entrusted things
that replace feelings
memories of feelings,
authentic or otherwise.

The treasured
hat, scarf, mittens
made of sheep’s fur.
Bought on an anniversary,
one of their first
one of the few.

They were still young.
Perhaps even able to pretend
The skin off their backs,
gifts of great significance
the talking point for years.

The Amethyst from the draw,
another from her finger.
Intoxicated with rage.
The care package perished.
Perforated the roof
the little house
could not host happy.
